Jokes and obscure references aside - a few years ago I wrote a blog post on imposter syndrome. Basically dealing with being a musician playing classical music WITHOUT having an actual documented education to back it up.
Its funny how it creeps back in.
Preparing for a trip to the Sioux Falls Farmers Market - I’m wondering again if I am even eligible.
Do I have the right equipment?
Will anyone enjoy the music?
I need to quick arrange more songs people will recognize.
What if everyone else that has played there was better than me? It is Sioux Falls - and I’m from little old Aberdeen.
There is always a little more anxiety when performing at a new location. Especially when that location has so much more live music than the city I am in. Sioux Falls residents are likely more acquainted with classical music - they do have an orchestra that performs in a huge performance center downtown. The open mic will for sure have had many talented performers come through.
I guess we will see how I am cut out for it. For now - it is what it is, and I will try not to worry myself over it too much.
Even if I’m an imposter - I suppose imposters walk away with either a few good laughs or opportunities.
“Fake it til you make it”.
